I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee, Psalm2:7.
For many years I linked this verse to John 1:18, No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him. In fact I still do but now with reservations. Jesus Christ is not the only son of God. That is clear in Genesis and Job. He is the only son who can say that the birth of my flesh is because my Father is God. And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God, Luke 1:35. The term Son of God in reference to Jesus Christ does not mean his soul or his spirit. It means his flesh (that holy thing). Jesus Christ is not eternally begotten of the Father. He was begotten on a particular day and is the only begotten in that no other person can ever claim that his DNA will not match any profile in the Universe other than Mary's lineage as the mother and God as the Father. How then do we account for Paul's statement in Acts 13: 33? God hath fulfilled the same unto us their children, in that he hath raised up Jesus again; as it is also written in the second psalm, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee. In this verse Paul ascribes that verse to the resurrection of Jesus Christ. I have long sought the scriptural justification that Paul used to do so. If I was pressed to the wall for an explanation, I would say that Paul was emphasizing the uniqueness of the person of Jesus Christ as if it was a no-brainer that God would not leave him dead. Nevertheless, the Apostle Paul describes the resurrection of Jesus Christ as him being begotten. I don't think that that nullifies the birth of Jesus Christ as also pertaining to Psalm 2:7. Jesus Christ was begotten twice. He was begotten as the second Adam, the son of David, the Messiah of Israel, the son of Mary and as the Son of God. In his resurrection he was begotten as the firstborn among many brethren. For unto which of the angels said he at any time, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee? And again, I will be to him a Father, and he shall be to me a Son? And again, when he bringeth in the firstbegotten into the world, he saith, And let all the angels of God worship him, Hebrews 1:5,6. For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren, Romans 8:29. When a man is born again, his flesh is not born again. When such a man is taken into heaven, he is clothed upon, For we that are in this tabernacle do groan, being burdened: not for that we would be unclothed, but clothed upon, that mortality might be swallowed up of life, II Corinthians 5:4. He retains his original body, but he is given an outer covering of the new body which has been reserved for him in heaven. How then is his current body taken into heaven? It is adopted. Nothing can ever change the fact that my flesh was begotten of Russell Maynard Asquith Jr. My spirit was born again. My soul was born again, but this earthly tabernacle of my flesh needs an adoption. That is Paul's term for the rapture. For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father, Romans 8:15. And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body, Romans 8:23. He could not say it more plainly. First, we are given a spirit whereby we can call Abba, Father, then our bodies are redeemed. Romans 8 is truly the rapture chapter of your bible. What is plain also is that our bodies are not now or ever will be begotten of God. God adopts them at the rapture and then gives them a new body to clothe them. That explains the difference in II Corinthians 6:18 wherein women retain their identity as women, And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty; and I Peter 3:4, But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price. In one verse women keep their identity as women. In the next verse speaking of women, their inner man is called just that, a man. What we can say about Hebrews 1:5,6 wherein the saints of God are called many brethren and Jesus Christ is called the firstborn is that it took the resurrection of Jesus Christ for us to be considered brethren. Had he only been born once we could never have been saved. In that his resurrection is also called him being begotten, we can be born again in soul and spirit and later adopted at the redemption of our earthly bodies. To be technical, Jesus Christ was born again. He was born at his physical birth which is called begotten and he was born at his resurrection which is called begotten.
